ISLAMABAD: The deadlock between Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and rest of the component parties of the six-party MMA over the group’s revival is likely to continue, as the latest attempt by Qazi Hussain Ahmed to convince Fazlur Rehman to part ways with the government met a desperate end.
In a bid to sort out differences over the mechanism for the revival the MMA, former JI chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed held a meeting with JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman on Tuesday. The meeting was part of the ongoing consultation process meant to revive the six-party alliance.
Qazi tried to convince Fazal to quit coalition government as a first step for the MMA’s revival, but Fazl stuck to his earlier stance that he would quit the government once the announcement for the MMA’s revival was made, a source privy to the development said. JI’s incumbent ameer Syed Munawar Hassan is ready to take the initiative to revive the MMA provided the JUI-F quits the coalition government first.
“Qazi asked Maulana that he was ready to plead his case but on the firm assurance from JUI-F that it would quit the coalition after MMA’s revival, however, Fazl made no such commitment saying that the matter of JUI-F’s parting ways with the PPP would be decided by the CEC and that it should not be taken as an obstacle in the revival of the alliance,” the source said.
On the other hand, a JUI-F leader said the deadlock would continue, however, the meeting could be taken as thaw in relations.
