PARIS: Rafael Nadal has ruled himself out of the Paris-Bercy Masters 1000 next week because of tendonitis in his left arm.
The world number one from Spain had been due to make his much-anticipated comeback here having not competed since October 14 when he was eliminated from the Shanghai Masters in the third round by Austria’s Jurgen Melzer. Nadal was set to arrive in the French capital later Friday to certify the nature and extent of his injury setback – of which organisers have so far been told little.
“I am very unhappy to not be playing this year at the Paris-Bercy event,” said the five-time French Open winner, who has had less success on the other side of Paris, where his best result was reaching the final in 2007.
“Due to a small tendinitis on my left arm caused by forcing a bit too much on my practice this week back at home I have to stay 6/7 days resting.
“It is nothing to be worried about, but the doctor told me that during those days I have to be doing intensive treatment and functional rehabilitation with physiotherapy.”
At Bercy, which runs from November 7-14, Nadal would have played his final tournament ahead of the London Masters on November 21-28.
