Sarfraz advises players to knock on COAS’ door

LAHORE: Former swing king Sarfraz Nawaz has asked the tainted trio to knock the door of the Court of Arbitration for Sports because he did not expect any favours from the ICC towards the Pakistani cricketers.
“When the suspended players have no confidence in the ICC, how can they expect a favourable decision when the final hearing is held,” a website quoted Nawaz as saying.
The International Cricket Council’s code of commission rejected the appeals of Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir against their suspensions on Sunday, with the next stage being a hearing by the anti-corruption tribunal into the details of the spot-fixing case.
Butt and Amir accused the ICC of not paying any heed to their appeals against the provisional bans as the Code of Commission’s head Michael Beloff heard the appeals on Sunday. Beloff will now form a three-member anti-corruption tribunal.
“In the first place the players should have directly gone to the tribunal instead of going through this appeal process,” Nawaz said.
According to Nawaz, the indications were clear that the ICC had solid proof against the trio when it suspended them on September 2 after British tabloid ‘The News of the World’ accused them of bowling pre-determined no-balls during the Lords test against England.
“I don’t think that when the tribunal meets they will have a soft corner for them and I believe they will hand them tough punishments,” Nawaz said.
