Joint meeting set to expose Chaudhrys’ strength today

ISLAMABAD: The joint parliamentary party meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) scheduled for today will reveal the true number of parliamentarians loyal to the Chaudhrys, while there are no chances of a consensus being reached on Pakistan People’s Party-PML-Q power-sharing as well as the PML unification drive.
In today’s crucial party meeting, the PML-Q is poised to chalk-out its future political course of action. However, the party parliamentarians’ get-together at Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain’s residence was likely to be a litmus paper test of the Chaudhry’s real strength in parliament.
Background discussions with PML-Q lawmakers from both houses of parliament revealed that a significant number of members of National Assembly (MNAs) and senators would not take part in the meeting.
The PML-Q parliamentarians who were not attending the brainstorming session were either part of the party’s dissident group, or had differences with the Chaudhrys on personal grounds.
The PML-Q has a total of 51 lawmakers in the National Assembly but as many as 17 MNAs including Nawaz Alai, Humayon Saifullah, Israr Tareen, Sadiq Khan Baloch, Nauman Langrial, Khadim Hussain Wattoo, Arbab Zakaullah, Kishan Chand Parwani, Kashmala Tariq, Dewan Ashiq Bukhari, Talib Hussain Nakai, Riaz Fatiana, Sahibzada Mehboob Sultan, Muhammad Asim Nazir, Sumera Malik, Shahzada Mohiuddin and Ghulam Bibi Bharwana were not attending the consultation meeting.
Out of a total of 21 senators, Haroon Akhtar, Muhammad Ali Durrani, Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi, Salim Saifullah, Jan Muhammad Jamali, Rehana Yahya Baloch and Saeed Ahmed Hashmi were unlikely to attend the crucial, joint parliamentary meeting of the PML-Q.
