Zardari tells PPP ministers in Sindh to prepare for LG polls

KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari has asked his party ministers in Sindh to start preparing for the local government elections slated to be held within six months, Fauzia Wahab told the media after the president’s meeting with the party’s provincial ministers at the Bilawal House on Monday.
The president was briefed on the performance and problems of the Sindh government’s Home, Finance, Irrigation, Education and Excise departments. Giving the details of the meeting, Wahab said that the president had expressed annoyance over some matters and said that his directives issued at different times should be properly followed up.
The president was of the view that the excise and taxation department should accelerate the process of computation of the official records. “There should be an online tax system for taxpayers,” Wahab quoted the. According to her, the president also stressed the need for introducing an irrigation mapping system on Google.
He asked the irrigation department to take steps for providing water for the irrigated land of Malir through the drip irrigation system so that more land could be made available for cultivation. He suggested that the land in Malir could also be used for cultivation of pan.
During the Education Department’s briefing, the president urged the authorities concerned to take steps for the early revival of the province’s educational process after the floods. He asked the Sindh Education and Literacy Minister Pir Mazharul Haq to take steps for starting evening coaching classes in the government colleges of the province.
