Sindh CM denies allegation on Watan Cards distribution

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Monday denied an opposition member’s allegation that Watan cards were not being distributed properly among flood survivors.
Responding to an adjournment motion on Watan cards by the opposition’s Arif Mustafa Jatoi Qaim said, “The Sindh government has allocated Rs 20 billion for Watan cards only one-fourth of flood survivors have been able to obtain the cards so far and this process will continue for four more months.
Education Minister Pir Mazahrul Haq said that not a single person has died in relief camps due to starvation. Opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly Jam Madad said that Watan card scheme was a good one to help the flood-victims but there were many complaints reported about its distribution that was needed to be revised.
The deputy speaker rejected the adjournment motion of Jatoi on technical grounds. Provincial minister Shazia Marri tabled a resolution, that was passed unanimously, in which she appreciated the efforts of Asma Jahangir for democracy and human rights in the country and congratulated her for being elected as the first female president of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
