LAHORE: Trolleys carrying electricity transformers placed on different city roads are causing traffic congestion and also pose threats to citizens’ lives, Pakistan Today has observed.
Most of these trolleys can be seen on the Peco Road, Model Town Link Road, Faisal Town and in the walled city. COMPLAINTS Citizens say that these transformer trolleys caused traffic congestion as the trolley blocked one lane of the road.
“I often get stuck in traffic jams, especially in morning hours, at the Model Town Link Road where a huge trolley is placed with a transformer on it,” said a motorist Sadeed Ather. He added that it had been more than 15 days that the transformer was placed there and no one was removing it despite traffic congestion.
A shopkeeper at Model Town Link Road, Sheraz Hussain said that shopkeepers of the area complained about the problem to LESCO but they have not taken the complains seriously.
Similarly, a transformer placed at a service lane of Peco Road causes traffic jams in the area. There is also a school beside the trolley, putting schoolchildren at risk of electrocution. “I see many children passing by the trolley which is very dangerous and LESCO should remove it,” said a motorist Jaleel Haider.
A LESCO official said that normally transformers were mounted 12-feet high between two electricity poles and if the company lacked transformers then a special trolley carrying a transformer was placed on temporary basis. “The sub-division of the concerned LESCO office is bound to remove them within three or four days,” said a LESCO official, adding that there were many areas where the transformers had been placed for many weeks.
LESCO Additional Manager Public Relations Javed Ahmed Khan said that the company will remove the trolleys as soon as new transformers were made available. He said it was a threat for the people and the company was fully aware of it. “We will try our best to remove them within days,” he added.
