Six killed in drone strike in N Waziristan

PESHAWAR: Six suspected terrorists were killed and several others injured when a US drone targeted a militant compound in Ismael Khel area of Datta Khel region in North Waziristan on Thursday.
The drone attack was the third strike in less than 24 hours. The compound targeted was in use by militants and was hit by two missiles. The identity of killed and injured could not be ascertained, but locals said they included local and foreign militants. A day earlier, seven people were killed in similar strikes by a US drone at two separate places.
Mohmand clash: At least six people, including five suspected terrorists, were killed and several others injured in a clash between a tribal militia and the Taliban in Anbar area of Mohmand Agency on Thursday.
The Taliban attacked a checkpost of the militia at Bakhmal Shah Village in Anbar Tehsil of Mohmand. One volunteer of was killed and four were injured in the attack. The tribesmen retaliated and claimed to have killed five militants and injuring another 10.
The situation in the area turned tense after the attack and security was put on a high alert. Officials said efforts were on to arrest the militants hiding in the area. Meanwhile, three headless bodies were found dumped at Mechani area of Mohmand. The dead were identified as Mujahid, Haid and Khawanay.
A Taliban spokesman said the three had posed to be Taliban, but were involved in criminal activities. The trio was captured two days ago and their bodies dumped in fields in the Yaka Ghaound district. Residents said a note was found near the bodies, identifying them as criminals “defaming” the Taliban.
