Terrorists attacking mosques, shrines and imambargahs want to harm the unity of the nation but they will not succeed, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Wednesday.
Talking to reporters after visiting the shrine of Hazrat Baba Farid Gunj Shakar in Pakpattan on Wednesday, he said that terrorists were enemies of both religion and humanity. Followers of Baba Farid all over the world were deeply shocked, he said.
Effective security had not allowed the terrorists to reach the inside of the shrine because of which the building was safe, he said, adding that the recent incidents of terrorism at the shrines were of great concern and all efforts to sabotage the sectarian harmony will be foiled.
A comprehensive plan had been made by the Punjab government to protect shrines and other religious buildings, he said. He appealed to the administration of shrines to cooperate with the government. Replying to a question, he said that the ceremonies of the next Urs of Baba Farid uddin Gunj Shakar will be held and special security arrangements will be.
He gave Rs 5 lakh each to the families of those who had lost their lives in the incident.
