Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has announced that Zamzama gas field is scheduled to begin annual maintenance from October 26 for the duration of nine days; gas supply in its system is expected to fall by 170 MMCFD.
In a press statement, SNGPL announced that it would suspend gas supply to three fertiliser plants, Pak Arab Fertlizer, Dawood Hercules and Pak American Fertiliser, during this period.
According to the latest load management schedule for general industry, Lahore-1 (Sheikhupura and Gujranwala) and Lahore-2 (Sahiwal) would observe gas load-shedding on October 30 to November 1.
In Faisalabad and Zone-4 (Bahawalpur, Multan and Islamabad regions) gas supply would be restricted from October 27 to October 29 and November 2 to November 4.
Bahawalpur and Islamabad regions are expected to observe supply cuts on October 29 to October 30 and November 5 to November 6. Multan, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal and Gujranwala regions will face gas holidays on October 26 to October 27 and November 2 and November 3, with Faisalabad region sustaining cuts from October 27 to October 28 and November 3 to November 4.
SNGPL has requested industrial consumers on SNGPL’s network to use alternate fuels so that their production activities are maintained. SNGPL statement says after completion of maintenance at Zamzama, the industrial sector would observe a gas holiday of between one and two days weekly depending on the supply situation at the time.
PAAPAM slams SNGPL over gas curtailment
The Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) has condemned the suspension of three days in supply of gas to the industrial sector and stated that it would jump up unemployment and create unrest among workers across the country.
The PAAPAM managing committee, in a meeting on Wednesday, expressed anguish over the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) decision to suspend gas supply to the auto industry which would ultimately dampen exports and supply chain of cars, tractors and motorcycles.
