Citizens remain ‘helpless’ as Rescue 1122 fails to receive calls

LAHORE
The Punjab Emergency Service Rescue 1122 is facing serious problems in its telecommunication system as its district control room is unable to receive citizens’ calls, according to a press released issued here on Wednesday.
According to the press release, it had come to the notice of the Rescue 1122 management that ‘help seekers’ did not receive any response from the service on a significant number of calls. Upon investigation, it was found out that such calls were actually not being received or were being diverted to the Police Headquarters due to telecommunication problems, especially at the end of a few mobile service providers and the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited.
Punjab Rescue 1122 Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer directed the Provincial Monitoring Cell to take up the issue with the mobile operators concerned and the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority to ensure that the emergency service could be accessed by all citizens in case of any emergency.
He also requested the public to report such complaints so that such problems could be identified and subsequently resolved at the earliest. Only feedback from public can help Rescue 1122 maintain quality of services being provided, Naseer added.
After analysing the problem, the PMC staff found out that the 1122 number was accessible without any glitches in 35 districts of Punjab, and the problem was being reported at tehsil level and in suburbs of districts.
