The Pakistan People Party’s meeting with the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) is meant to send a message to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) that its breaking away from the coalition will not destabilise the federal government as PPP has the PML-Q’s support, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Tuesday.
Sanaullah was talking to reporters after appearing before the judicial commission constituted to probe the abduction and torture of senior journalist Umer Cheema. “The recent meeting of the PPP and PML-Q has no implications for the Punjab government or Punjab’s politics. Its sole purpose was to send a message to MQM that the PML-Q is with the federal government,” he said.
Sanaullah said that the PPP-PML-Q meeting showed that the two parties ‘wanted to protect corrupt people’ and they had no concern for late PM Benazir Bhutto’s mission. “Benazir, in her will, declared the PML-Q ‘Qatil League’ “, he said.
Sanaullah said that the PML-N gave all respect to the Pakistan Army but opposed those elements who used the power of the military for their personal ego. “The military leadership needs to pinpoint those elements who use the army for their personal gains”, he said.
