Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer on Tuesday hailed the efforts of the students of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore and Taxila for helping the flood survivors of Hajipura and Nawabpura, and urged the Lahore College for Women’s University vice chancellor to also send her students to the flood-affected areas for rehabilitation work.
Addressing the 8th Convocation of the LCWU, Taseer said that during the floods, the whole nation showed unity and all flood survivors had returned to their homes. He urged the international community to help Pakistan in rebuilding the infrastructure destroyed during the floods.
The Punjab governor told the audience that the federal government had helped the flood affectees without any discrimination or political affiliation. Condemning the attack on the shrine of Baba Farid Ganj Shakar, he said that Pakistanis were united against terrorism.
Taseer said that the terrorists would not succeed in changing our lifestyles, adding that the terrorists were the enemies of Islam. Dr Mateen presented the annual report of the institution. Certificates, medals and degrees were awarded to 877 graduates of BS, MA, MSc, MS and 14 PhDs were awarded to students who had completed their research work in natural sciences, humanities, Islamic and oriental learning.
