Nawaz ‘power hungry’, has no principles: Imran

LAHORE
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf could not even think of joining hands with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz because Nawaz Sharif is power-hungry and can forego any principle to attain power, Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan said on Monday.
Addressing a press conference, Imran said the opposition was attempting to save a corrupt system, adding that the only obstacle to the ‘corrupt’ rulers was Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhry. The PTI chairman warned the PPP government of a long march that would not culminate in Gujranwala as a result of a deal (a reference to Sharif’s long march in March 2009 for the restoration of deposed judges) if it assaulted the judiciary.
The PTI chief alleged the government was trying to buy the loyalties of the legal fraternity but a majority of the lawyers along with the PTI and other political forces were committed to the cause. He told a questioner that Nawaz Sharif thrice backed out of his promise of boycotting the previous general election.
He asserted that the PML-N chief would even embrace the Chaudhrys of Gujrat if the need arises. Imran said only free elections could establish which party is the largest. “We have got a free judiciary and media but the goal of having an independent and impartial Election Commission is yet to be achieved,” he said.
On the occasion, former foreign minister Khursheed Kasuri’s brother Bakhtiar Kasuri announced that he was joining the PTI.
