LAHORE
Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) is not like Sasti Roti Scheme which was launched just for cheap popularity and publicity, Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer said this during a ceremony here on Friday.
The event was organised on the launch of National Poverty Survey 2010-11 conducted under the auspices of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) at the Education Complex.
He said Benazir Income Support Program was not like the Food Stamp Scheme which was ‘fake one’. He said the government would provide Rs 0.3 million to each family during the next phase of BISP and 5 million families will be financially supported under the programme by next June.
“BISP is first the transparent programme by any government as it did gain the appreciation worldwide. We raised the salary of government employees by 50 percent and restored those who had been terminated by earlier regimes. That’s why Pakistan People Party is receiving public support from across the country,” he observed.
He reiterated his resolve to make Punjab a bastion of PPP and that the government would alleviate poverty through Benazir Income Support Programme. BISP Chairperson and Farzana Raja said that the programme was successfully helping the poor from all over the country irrespective of their caste, creed and political affiliations.
She said any wrongdoing done under the programme would never go unpunished.
