Senate Standing Committee on Interior Chairman Talha Mahmood on Friday announced he would have warrants out for Ambassador to the US Hussain Haqqani, if he did not turn up and explain his position in the Dr Aafia case.
The committee has summoned Haqqani on November 4 to explain “why he protected US interests instead of getting Dr Aafia Siddiqui released from US prison”.
Addressing a press conference, Talha said the committee would issue arrest warrant for Haqqani if he did not appear on November 4 and explain how Rs 170 million allocated for Dr Aafia’s case were spent.
Talha said Aafia’s lawyers had also protected US interests and had themselves advocated a sentence for her.
