Free diagnostic and treatment facilities have been provided to dengue fever patients in the government hospitals on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif and hospitals’ administrations have been directed to give special attention to patients, said Secretary Health Punjab Fawad Hassan Fawad during his visit to the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) and Mayo Hospital where he enquired about the health of dengue patients and reviewed the arrangements for their treatment.
Medical Superintendent SGRH Dr Ejaz Sheikh informed the secretary that since October 3, 38 dengue patients were admitted in SGRH and out of those 24 were still under treatment while the remaining had been discharged after recovery. He informed that these patients belonged to the areas of Gharhi Shahu, Allama Iqbal Town, Modal Town, Mozang, Samanabad, Anarkali and Sandha.
The secretary also inquired about the treatment facilities and provision of free medicine to dengue patients. The patients expressed their satisfaction over the arrangements made by the hospitals administration. Fawad directed the administration of Fatima Jinnah Medical College and SGRH to organise a seminar on dengue fever on October 25.
He directed to ensure the participation of doctors from other medical colleges and hospitals as well in the seminar. Mayo Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Zahid Parvaiz informed the secretary, 54 dengue patients were admitted in the hospital, during October 11 to 21, out of which 15 patients were still under treatment while the rest had recovered.
Zahid further told the secretary that the treatment and diagnostic facilities along with the provision of platelets were being extended free of cost. Fawad directed that a senior registrar should be appointed for monitoring the patients round the clock.
Zahid informed the Secretary that dengue patients approaching the hospital mostly belonged to Lohari Gate, Misri Shah, Badami Bagh, Bilal Ganj, Gulshan-e-Ravi and Samanabad. Meanwhile, on the instructions of the health secretary, Health Special Secretary Waseem Mukhtar also visited Services Hospital and inquired about the health of dengue patients and evaluated the treatment facilities being provided to these patients.
MS Dr Muhammad Javed briefed the special secretary about the arrangements made for the treatment of dengue patients in the Services Hospital.
Latest: Apart from the reports provided by the hospital MSs, the Punjab Health Department spokesperson has said that 74 new patients of dengue fever have been reported so far in Lahore during the last 24 hours, out of which 9 have been reported in Mayo Hospital, one in Services Hospital, 50 in Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital, 11 in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and 6 patients were reported in private hospitals.
Furthermore, 5 patients have been reported in Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi. Number of total dengue fever patients in the province has reached 613.
