The Supreme Court on Friday was moved to proceed against former president Pervez Musharraf in accordance with the High Treason Punishment Act and set aside the judgment of the Sindh High Court which said that it cannot order registration of a high-treason case against Musharraf.
The petitioner, Maulvi Iqbal Haider, requested the apex court to grant leave to appeal against the impugned Sindh High Court judgment and set aside the same in the interest of justice. He further requested that appropriate declaration and directions be granted under the circumstances of the case so as to meet the ends of justice.
The applicant raised questions whether Musharraf abrogated and subverted the Constitution of Pakistan and whether Musharraf violated Article 6 of the constitution.
