KARACHI
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Karachi division on Friday issued a list of party activists, who the party said were murdered in the recent wave of violence in city.
The issuance of the PPP’s list coincided with Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s call for an operation against criminals in Lyari, a stronghold of the PPP. According to the list, out of the 75 people killed in street shooting incidents 23 were PPP activists.
PPP’s list said Noor-ul Haq Ansari, Mohammad Akbar, Bashir Ahmed, Faiaz, Sefal and Kashir were killed in a single incident in the Baldia Town area. Others who were gunned down in separate attacks included Azeem Baig, Shafiq, Arshad Lasi, Nazir Baloch, Ghulam Serwer Baloch, Nawaz Khaskheli, Abdul Basit, Mohammad Asif, Shoukat Baloch, Suleman Baloch, Faiz Baloch, Qasim Baloch, Abdul Rehman, Abid Baloch, Suleman Baloch, Saleem Baloch and Mushtaq Ahmed Baloch.
PPP office-bearers said that the FIRs of these murders had been registered with the police stations concerned. The PPP-led Sindh government is facing pressure from its coalition partner, the MQM, to start an operation against criminals operating in Lyari.
But the PPP insists that a single area could not be targeted and the operation must cover larger areas of the city. On October 18, Interior Minister Rehman Malik had told reporters at the MQM headquarters Nine-Zero that a thorough investigation would be conducted into killings.
