Aleem honoured for his laurels

LAHORE
Pakistan’s top umpire Aleem Dar, recently nominated the ICC Umpire of the Year, was given half-a-million rupees and a souvenir by the Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ijaz Butt at the National Cricket Academy here on Thursday.
Aleem made his international debut as an umpire in 2000 and joined the ICC’s Elite panel of umpires in 2004. It is the second time that Aleem has received the award ahead of his colleagues Tony Hill and Simon Taufel, the five-time ICC umpire of the Year.
In the final reckoning, he was running neck to neck with Simon Taufel but the award was eventually given to the Pakistan umpire. PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt congratulated Aleem on being named the ICC Umpire of the 2010.
“It is a great honour for the country that Aleem Dar has once again won the prestigious Umpire of the Year award for his honest and consistent performance over the last year. It shows his hard work and dedication towards his job. Aleem Dar’s award has made all Pakistanis proud and we remain confident that he will continue to excel in his field in the years to come.”
