ECP summons 12 MPs, restores 25

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned 12 lawmakers, including a federal minister for livestock and dairy development, today (Thursday) before its special committee to defend their positions in the fake degree cases.
An ECP official said that Livestock and Dairy Development Minister Mir Humayun Aziz Kurd had been sent a final notice to appear before the committee. Other parliamentarians summoned include Nasim Nasir Khawaja, Shumaila Rana, Seemal Kamran, Farah Deeba, Majida Zaidi, Gulistan Khan, Shafiq Ahmed Gujjar, Sardar Muhammad Sulman Mohsin, Waseem Afzal Gondal, Agha Muhammad and Syed Javid Hussain.
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) had declared the educational degrees of 54 lawmakers fake and sent the records to ECP for hearing. ECP Joint Secretary Afzal Khan, who is heading the committee, said all cases would be sent to the election commissioner for further action in light of Supreme Court directions.
Meanwhile, the ECP restored the membership of 25 lawmakers, including Education Minister Sardar Assef Ahmed Ali, after they submitted their assets and liabilities declarations with the commission.
