KARACHI: Gas supply to Sindh will be shut down for the maintenance of the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) gas fields from October 26 to November 4, SSGC Managing Director Dr Faizullah Abbasi said on Tuesday while addressing a lunch hosted by the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI).
“The arrears on KESC have gone up to Rs 22 billion and there has been no commitment by the power utility about the clearing of the dues. We do not have any plans to cut down the gas supply, keeping in view the problems of the citizens,” he said.
“The KESC has only paid the bill for August in September. They have also refused to pay late-payment surcharge.” He said that except for the KESC, SSGC’s recovery from general consumers was almost 99.9 percent which is a record for any utility agency.
He clarified that SSGC has no official agreement of gas supply and gas was being supplied to the KESC only due to a decision by the Economic Coordination Committee of the cabinet.
