LAHORE: Three persons, including two minor girls, were injured after a low intensity explosive device blew up in an area adjacent to the Davis Road in Race Course Police precincts on Monday.
The explosive material went off after it fell down from the hands of a scavenger residing at the Habibullah Road in Garhi Shahu area. Police arrested the scavenger identified as Ahmed and his brother after the blast occurred. The blast occurred on the backside of the Muslim League House located at the Davis Road.
As a result, two sisters Hadiqa, 4, and Hania, 2, who were standing on the terrace of their house were injured. Scavenger Ahmed was also injured in the explosion. Local residents rushed out of their houses and informed police. The law enforcement agency reached the spot and arrested Ahmed and starting interrogating him. Edhi rescue teams and bomb disposal squad also reached the spot. According to sources, Ahmed told police that he had collected a bomb from a dustbin placed outside the office of a private TV channel.
The accused told police that he thought the bomb was a piece of iron and he could make money by selling it at the scrap yard. Eyewitness Waqas told Pakistan Today that he was at his home when the blast occurred. He said that he saw a youngster aged between 18 to 20 years who was trying to escape from the scene.
Waqas said that he and other local residents nabbed the suspect and handed him over to police. He said that Ahmed was coming to their area for sometime to collect garbage and looked suspicious from the very beginning. Hadiqa and Hania’s father said that his daughters were injured, as they were playing on the terrace of their house. He said that both of them were not critically injured.
