Couple escape honour killing on LHC premises

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday saved a married couple from honour killing, by providing timely police protection from the girl’s family who had taken positions around LHC to kill them for honour.
The couple had approached the LHC to quash the kidnapping FIR registered by the girl’s father against her husband, at a police station in Kot Shakir, district Jhang. Once they reached the court’s premises they could not leave as the girl’s father had deployed armed men at the LHC’s gates.
Qaisar Abbas, a Section Officer (SO), and Kashaf ul Aiman had married against the will of Kashaf’s father, who in retaliation had a kidnapping case registered against Qasiar. Kashaf denied her father’s allegations on Qaisar and recorded her statement before a magistrate in LHC.
The couple had managed to reach LHC along with their lawyer Anwar ul Haq Tarar. Justice Manzoor Malik has issued a notice to the Jhang police on their petition seeking cancellation of FIR. After recording their statement the couple declined to leave the courtroom, however they shortly briefed media persons about the situation.
Finally, the judge called DSP Raza Kazmi who escorted the couple to safety. Kashaf’s father Tasadduq Hussain claimed that her daughter had already married a man from his village in Jhang and she had remarried without seeking divorce from his first husband.
