Two people, including UET student, commit suicide

Two people, including a University of Engineering and Technology (UET) student, committed suicide over domestic issues in two different areas of the city on Wednesday.
According to details, UET student Sibghat, 24, hanged himself in his hostel room on Tuesday. After reaching the spot, police and university officials recovered his body and handed it over to his family. His funeral was held at the Jamaetul Muntazir, which was attended by family members, university students and faculty members. Talking to Pakistan Today, UET Public Relations Officer Rana Tanvir said that the body was taken to his hometown Gilgit. He said that university officials had tried their best to help the victim’s family. Tanvir said that the varsity had arranged an ambulance for shifting the body and provided Rs 10,000 to Sibghat’s family. He told this scribe that police had recovered a suicidal note written by the victim. According to the note, the UET student was suffering from acute depression, as a girl had rejected him. According to his elder brother, Sibghat was depressed for sometime as he did not score good marks in examinations. The hostel’s Senior Warden Dr Ghayas said that Sibghat was a religious person and had no concern with a girl. He said that a domestic issue might have been the reason for his suicide.
In another incident, a 45-year-old man committed suicide after jumping in front of a train in Dharampura. According to details, victim Muhammad Shafiq, resident of Gulistan Colony, Dharampura had financial problems due to which he decided to end his life. After reaching the spot, police contacted his family members who immediately reached the spot. Afterwards, the body was sent to his home with the help of Edhi officials. According to police, the body had split into two parts after being hit by the train.
