Christians are not being provided exemption to practice personal law, says minister
Minority department releases Rs. 6.6 mllion to TEVTA for training of minority students
LAHORE: Presiding over a special meeting, Minister for Human Rights and Minority Affairs, Kamran Michael has said government will ensure the participation of personnel from all Christian schools of thought in the review process of Christian Personal Law, according to the DGPR statement.
The minister said that special exemption for all the minorities of Pakistan regarding the personal law was specified in the 1973 constitution of Pakistan and Succession Act 1925, but was not being given to the Christian community. He said that the constitution and the act were being violated and the Christians were being discriminated.
The exemption specified for the minorities would also be ensured to the Christians as well, Michael assured. He said that all sections of Christian clergy will be invited to participate in the review process of Christian Personal Law and necessary amendments would be made in it to make it completely in accordance with the Holy Bible.
He said that Minority Affairs Department had released Rs. 6.6 million to Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) Punjab for free technical education and training of minority students of the province. He said that next month Rs. 5 million would also be granted to TEVTA in second phase. He directed the minority students to contact their nearest technical education and vocational training institutes for free admissions.
The meeting was attended by the Parliamentary Secretary Khalil Tahir Sindhu, Secretary Minority Affairs Arshad Bin Ahmed, Additional Secretary Usman Saroush, Father Manni Hizqy L. Saroush, Paster Kamran Wilson, Paster Shakeel Anjum and Advocate IQ Shams.
