Police informed the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday that a case has been registered against the owner of Whiskas juice factory for selling animal food for human consumption after repacking it as mango juice.
The Shera Kot Police Station SHO submitted a report in the court of Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed stating that accused Amjad Javed, owner of Whiskas juice factory in Lahore, was arrested and sent to jail after registering an FIR against him. But a local court released him on bail, the police report said. On Wednesday, the Punjab deputy advocate general and the deputy attorney general were not available for further proceedings and the judge adjourned the case’s hearing until November 12.
Earlier, the court had ordered registration of a case against the accused for selling a juice for human consumption, meant for cats in foreign countries, after repacking it as mango juice. Judicial Activism Panel Chairman Muhammad Azhar Siddique had filed a petition against the import of animal food and selling it for human consumption. The petitioner argued that some people were selling expired food in the market by re-labeling it. He said that health of the citizens was at risk due to such criminal activities. Siddique urged the court to take stern action against people involved in such crimes.
