Shiv Sena blocks out show in Mumbai

Cable operators across Mumbai and Thane have decided to bow down to Shiv Sena’s diktat and block the reality show ‘Bigg Boss’ on Colors channel from Wednesday night. The Shiv Sena has been protesting against the participation of two Pakistan actors in the fourth edition of the popular show. Sena leader Anil Parab confirmed that cable operators had agreed to a blackout. “The blackout began in Mumbai from Wednesday and will spread to rest of the state by today.”
Ganesh Naidu, president of Cable Operators and Distributors Association, that has over 2,500 members in and around Mumbai, said, “We have blocked Colors in response to the call given by the Sena chief. The channel will not be shown by us in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai.”
Colors channel spokesperson confirmed the development. “We received calls from operators that the Shiv Sena has ordered a blackout. By 9 pm (Wednesday) our telecast was suspended.”
Sainiks have been protesting in Lonavla, clamouring for the suspension of the ‘Bigg Boss’ shoot that is being conducted there. The Pune district administration had asked Colors channel to verify the visa papers of the two Pakistani actors. The channel said all their papers were in perfect order.
A Sena leader, requesting anonymity, said that since the government did not concede to Sena’s demand, the party was resorting to arm-twisting. “Mumbai and Thane together constitute the biggest TRPs for the show. It’s a plan that the Sena thinks will yield desirable results. The channel may pull out the two (Pakistani) actors if the blackout continues.”
The direct to home (DTH) viewers will, however, be able to watch the show.
