Actor Andrew Garfield says he was in a state of “pure shock” when he won the coveted role to play Peter Parker/Spider Man in the franchise reboot.
It is the biggest role for the young actor, whose previous credits include ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’ and ‘The Social Network’.
The 27-year-old actor says he was caught unaware when he was told about the role and director Marc Webb arrived with his production team to record his reaction.
“They flew in Marc Webb, the director, and the producers. They had a film crew recording my reaction, which was pure shock. It was an incredible moment that I will never forget,” Garfield said.
The actor says he always longed for the role of the web-slinging superhero but he never thought that he will be Spider Man one day.
“That character has meant so much to me since I was old enough to understand the concept of justice and to wear a Halloween costume.”
Rhys Ifans of ‘Notting Hill’ has been roped in to play the baddie in the film while Emma Stone has been cast as Garfield’s love interest Gwen Stacy in the movie.
Garfield replace Tobey Maguire as the new web-slinging hero while Webb was roped in to helm the fourth movie in place of Sam Raimi.
The movie is slated to hit theatres on July 3, 2012.
