ISLAMABAD: The 41st World Standards Day is being celebrated across the world including Pakistan to pay tribute to the efforts of thousands of experts worldwide working in active collaboration of the IEC, ISO and ITU to develop voluntary International Standards that facilitate trade, spread knowledge and disseminate technological advances.
The aim of World Standards Day is to raise awareness among regulators, industry and consumers as to the importance of standardisation in the global economy. October 14 was specifically chosen to mark the date, in 1946, when delegates from 25 countries first gathered in London and decided to create an international organisation focused on facilitating standardisation.
The theme of this year’s World Standards Day message is “Standards make the world accessible for all”. With at least 650 million people globally affected by some kind of disability, combined with the rising numbers of older people in the world’s population one quarter of all citizens are 60 or older the issue of accessibility to products and services has become more important than ever.
