LAHORE
Overloaded and improperly loaded trucks were an important factor leading to accidents on the highways and motorways, said National Highways & Motorway Police (NH&MP) Inspector General Dr Wasim Kauser while inspecting the N-5 central zone (Lahore-Multan-Rahim Yar Khan) with patrolling officers.
He said that overloaded trucks posed a very serious danger as they had a tendency to loose control especially during an attempt to avoid any collision with road side animals that were prone to making a sudden appearance on the road.
“The very presence of an overweight truck on the highway reflected an accident in the making,” the IG added.
IG directed the officials of the Motorway Police to ensure strict implementation of rules and regulation regarding vehicle overloading. The IG appreciated the motorway police officers’ performance and further advised to work harder for an uninterrupted, safe and clear passage for the commuters to ensure their safe journey and minimize rate of accidents on the highway. He also advised the officers to respect the commuters as the duty they performed was ‘sacred’.
He said that the NH&MP had earned a good repute owing to friendly attitude of its officials towards commuters.
