At least one person died and three others sustained injuries in a stampede which occurred after a police baton charge to control unruly flood victims during the issuance of Watan Cards in Nawabshah on Tuesday, a private TV channel reported.
According to the report, during the distribution of Watan Cards at DC High School, Nawabshah, a few flood victims tried to enter the premises by jumping over the walls, which created disturbances in the crowd. The police started aerial firing and a baton charge to control the unruly crowd.
The stampede claimed the life of a 45-year old, while three others sustained serious injuries. The deceased and the injured were taken to a hospital in Nawabshah.
