A summary of amendments requesting an allowance for issuing tickets to pedestrians who use roads instead of the bridges built to cross over was sent by the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) to the government.
“We have asked for an authorization from the law ministry to issue Rs100 ticket citizens who use road instead of a pedestrian bridge,” a senior ITP official asking not to be named told Pakistan Today. The pedestrian bridges constructed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) had decreased road accidents and they should be used, he added.
Every year 33 people died while crossing roads before the construction and now the number had come down to 9, he said. ITP expects a greater decrease if a fine was placed on those not using the bridges, he said.
