Doctors step up protests, Lady Reading Hospital shut down, more to follow

Following the 24-hour ultimatum issued to the government earlier for the recovery of Dr. Intikhab Alam, a announcement of a complete strike at the Lady Reading Hospital and a two hour token strike at all other teaching hospitals was made at a general body meeting held by Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa. Professors and assistant professors from all over the province attended the meeting and condemned the carelessness of the government.
All private and VIP rooms and ward in the main hospitals will be shut down along with the private clinics and hospitals which were already closed for the past two days, Dr Shahsawar President of Provincial Doctors association told reporters. He urged the government to accept responsibility and to provide security to doctors all over the country otherwise the protests would increase in scale.
The PDA office bearers said that from 15 to 20 doctors have been abducted in a period of less than six months, many of whom were released in return of heavy amount of ransom and government had not taken any action so far.
