Agha Khan University Examination Board (AKUEB) is introducing a new teaching syllabus for Class VIII in order to ease the transition from middle to secondary and higher secondary school. This initiative will develop a new teaching syllabus for English, Urdu, Mathematics, General Science and Social Studies.
As students have to switch from a rote learning regime to an active learning approach in grade eight, AKUEB has decided to develop a course of study which promotes active enquiry. AKUEB’s basic strategy aims at bringing teachers out of isolation by encouraging them to share their insights and test new ideas in the classroom.
AKUEB hosted professional development workshops at Karachi and Lahore which equipped teachers with the knowledge and skill: to teach the national curriculum, identify appropriate textbooks, compare student learning outcomes, develop assessment schemes, and construct multiple choice question.
Teachers from Lahore, Attock, Peshawar, Dera Ismail Khan, Vehari, Burewala, Mardan, Faisalabad, Gujrat, Sahiwal, Gilgit, Chitral, Multan and Bahawalpur participated in these workshops.
