In a bid to absolve themselves from the NRO fiasco, PML-Q leaders on Friday succeeded to win the backing of US Ambassador Anne W Patterson, with the outgoing diplomat saying Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain had no role in the promulgation of the controversial ordinance.
In recent remarks passed in London, former president Pervez Musharraf had apologised to the nation for giving a green signal to the NRO and blamed Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi of pressing him to promulgate the ordinance.
But the Chaudhrys had rejected the claim, and finally succeeded in getting a favourable statement from Patterson to validate their stance.
“Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain had no link with NRO and the allegation on him regarding its promulgation is baseless,” Patterson told reporters after attending a farewell lunch at the residence of Shujaat.
