50-year old Ijaz paid Rakhi’s parents to let him marry her
Rakhi and new husband Abbas filed over 4 different kinds of petitions against the police, but they did not stop
LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday issued notice to Jhang police officials for registering false cases against a couple who married against their parents will.
Justice Muhammad Yawar issued this notice in a petition from Shahid Abbas and his wife Allah Rakhi. They claimed that Jhang police was allegedly harassing since their marriage on May 08, 2010.
Representing the petitioners, Advocate Pervaiz Aslam Chaudhry told the court that on September 11, 2008 the Allah Rakhi’s parents married her with fifty-year old Muhammad Riaz after taking money from him.
He said she spent 14 months with Riaz and after being maltreated by him she left his house on November 17, 2009 and went to Darul Amaan as her parents were also not willing to keep her with them. After reaching Lahore, she went to her relative’s house and filed a suit for the dissolution of her marriage with Ijaz. The suit was decreed on February 01, 2010 and after completing her ‘Iddat’ she married Shahid Abbas on May 08, 2010.
She said that the Jhang police started harassing them soon after her marriage. Due to this, the two appealed to a session’s judge, asking him to file an order stopping the Jhang police from harassing Abbas and Rakhi. When the police paid no attention to this order, Abbas and Rakhi filed a contempt of court petition. Their counsel told them that the police were now demanding Rs 50,000. Unable to pay this price, Ijaz, Rakhi and all the other family members, fled from their house.
Counsel said that three writ petitions were filed in the LHC on September 29, 2010, directing the Jhang police to stop harassing the couple. Saddar Jhang police station Sub-Inspector Umar Hayat ignored the petitions and implicated Ijaz and nine other relatives on October 04, 2010. Counsel claimed that the police allegedly kidnapped Allah Rakhi.
