Madaris want the charter to be able to issue degrees
Question on how to move forward with legislation remains unresolved
ISLAMABAD:
As the procedure remains unclear even after a meeting on Thursday, the linking of five Boards of Ittehad-e-Tanzeemate-Madaris Pakistan (ITMP) with the Ministry of Education continues to get delayed, an investigation by the reporter revealed.
The government on Thursday announced the formulation of an agreement with the representatives of ITMP under which five Boards of ITMP shall be recognized like other Boards through Act of Parliament or Executive Order. After extension of legal recognition, the five Boards of ITMP would be linked with Ministry of Education, the agreement said.
The meeting was not able to explain how to go about it and hence remained inconclusive. The government could not give a timeframe in this regard despite repeated questions by the representatives of the ITMP during the meeting.
ITMP has been pressing the government since years to grant it a charter of an examining university or to give it the legal rights to conduct Matric to Masters level examinations alike Pakistan Madressah Education Board and to allow for the validation of madressah’s sanad.
One of the representatives of ITMP Maulana Hanif Jalandhri who attended Thursday’s meeting termed the agreement between government and the Ittehad as the first step towards solution of the issues including registration of foreign students in deeni madaris. Other representatives asking not to be named said that it was all a matter of implementation. They said that the longstanding issue between the government and the Deeni Madaris needs to be addressed as soon as possible by implementing the agreement.
The government and the Deeni Madaris have been at odds regarding the syllabi of the religious schools and the way to conduct the examinations. Wafaq-ul-Madaris, Tanzeem-ul-Madaris Ahl-e-Sunnat Pakistan, Rabita-ul-Madaris Al-Islamia Pakistan, Wafaq-ul-Madaris Al-Salfia Pakistan and Wafaq-ul-Madaris Al-Shia Pakistan constitute the Ittehad-e-Tanzeemate-Madaris Pakistan.
