Body of missing minor girl recovered in Mardan

MARDAN: The body of a five-year-old girl was recovered on Wednesday from the Pati Kalay area of Takht-i-Bhai in Mardan.

It was reported that the girl was reported missing by her father on Tuesday, following which a complaint had been registered.

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Wahid Mehmood, “the child’s body was found near the family’s residence.”

Moreover, the deceased’s family stated that “torture marks were found on her body.”

The body has been shifted to the Mardan Medical Complex for post-mortem.

However, an FIR has not been registered as yet.

According to reports, thousands of child abuse incidents surface in Pakistan on a yearly basis. The crime went under-reported however, this changed after the Zainab murder case in Kasur earlier this year.

The six-year-old girl’s death forced the law enforcement authorities as well as the media to pay more attention to cases of violence against children.
