KP govt to set up women desks at all police stations


Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has announced that women police desks would be established at all 500 police stations of the province to facilitate the province’s female population.

Speaking at a ceremony in the provincial capital city, Khattak announced the establishment of Model Police Stations at Gulbahar, Faqirabad and UniversityTown areas under a pilot project which would be later extended to other police stations across the province.

The chief minister also announced the establishment of jury or jirga system at the model police stations. The system is to comprise of three independent individuals from the relevant area to settle local disputes before the registration of any FIR or case.

The plan for model police stations includes a reporting centre having a female desk, lock-ups and renovation of the police stations.

The chief minister said the female desks would be set up at all police stations of the province to facilitate women and resolve their problems.

On the occasion, Khyber Pakhtunhawa Inspector General of Police Nasir Durrani said that out of 500 police stations of the province, 250 were in a shambles and a proposal had been sent to the government for their repair.

He said the police department would be reformed along new lines to improve its working.
