At least four people died in separate firing incidents in the city’s Baldia Town, Garden and Orangi Town areas on Monday.
Per details, a woman killed in Garden Town was attacked at a traffic signal while she was on her way home.
In a separate incident, police launched investigations in Musharraf Colony and arrested five persons involved in extortion activities.
According to the police, the arrested persons, namely Wasif, Nazeer, Waqas, Wasim and Riaz, were wanted in extortion and other crimes. Four TT pistols and other weapons were also recovered from the suspects during the raid.
The city is home to multiple conflicts that frequently turn violent, including gang wars and ethnic and political rivalries. Militants have also been known to use the city as a hiding place and had also been extracting funds obtained through bank heists, extortion and kidnapping for ransom.
Meanwhile, at least six dead bodies were found from various parts of the city on Monday.
Two bodies in gunny bags were recovered from Gulistan-e-Jauhar area. The bodies found in Pehlwan Goth were of two men who were kidnapped on Sunday.
A body bearing torture marks was found in Kharadar neighbourhood and another body was recovered from the Naval Colony in the city’s Baldia Town locality.
A woman’s body was also found in the Baghdadi area of Lyari Town, whereas, a sixth body was recovered from Gulshan-e-Zia in the city’s Orangi Town area.
According to an estimate, the number of killings in the city jumped to more than 2,300 in 2012 from 1,700 the previous year. Meanwhile, more than 1,400 murders have already been recorded in the city since the start of this year.
